Each year on the dawn of Ammavaasa in the month Kartik the

glittering diyas ,the dazzling decorations,  announces the arrival of

the most vibrant festival of India-Diwali. The word Diwali has its

origin in the Sanskrit word "Deepavali" which means "rows of

light". This 5 day long Hindu festival is celebrated throughout the

world with great zeal and fanaticism .Diwali  is the

festival signifying the victory of good against evil.

Relationships are the essence of any festivity and it holds true for

any Indian festival. Each occasion brings the family together which

calls for a celebration. Raksha Bandhan is a celebration of one

such relation - that of a brother and a sister. This relationship is no

where so celebrated as in India. Raksha Bandhan is a festival

which celebrates the bond of affection between brothers and sisters

It is a day when siblings pray for each others' well being and wish

for each others' happiness and goodwill.

With Raksha Bandhan coming up on Aug 9th, involve your kids in

making a raakhi. They will enjoy the craft and learn a bit more

about Indian culture.
